TOPsport New ID: Lithuania and the Betting Market That Was Told to Go Quiet
A search for a TOPsport new ID from India is unusual, and it normally comes from someone with a Baltic connection: a student in Kaunas, a logistics job in Vilnius, a basketball fan who follows the Lithuanian league. Before anything else, GameWinExch is not affiliated with TOPsport and cannot issue its accounts. TOPsport is Lithuania’s largest home-grown betting company, and it deals with its own customers under Lithuanian rules. Our service is a rupee ID on our own panel, opened on WhatsApp and topped up by UPI. What makes the TOPsport name interesting for a reader here is the country behind it, because Lithuania has been running a live experiment that Indian policymakers talk about often: what happens when betting stays legal but is forbidden from promoting itself?
2021: The End of the Free Bet
The first step came in the middle of 2021. Lithuania amended its gaming law to prohibit the promotion of gambling. In practice that meant no welcome bonuses, no free bets, no deposit matches, no loyalty gifts, no prize draws and no discounts designed to encourage people to play. Plain advertising of a brand name survived for the time being, but anything that looked like an inducement was out.
For anyone used to Indian betting sites, where a 300 percent bonus banner fills half the screen, this is hard to picture. A Lithuanian betting site after 2021 looked like a bank’s website: a logo, a list of matches, the odds. Operators compete on price, range of markets and how quickly they pay.
Fines for a Sentence in an E-mail
The regulator, the Gaming Control Authority, enforced the promotion ban with some enthusiasm. Over the following years several licensed operators were fined, and the cases that reached the press were often about small things: a line on a website describing what customers could win, an e-mail that mentioned a new game in warm language, a social media post that read as an invitation. Penalties typically ran to thousands or tens of thousands of euros per breach, with the threat of licence suspension behind them. Operators took many of these decisions to court, and some were overturned, which tells you how fine the line between information and promotion turned out to be.
The Phased Road to a Full Advertising Ban
Parliament then went further. Amendments passed in recent years set out a staged tightening: first limits on when and how often gambling adverts may appear on television, radio and online, then a progressively narrower window, and finally a near-total ban on gambling advertising due around the start of 2028. Sponsorship has been drawn into the debate too, which matters in a country where basketball clubs have long worn betting logos. Dates and details have shifted during the legislative process, so treat this as a general outline and check current sources if it matters to you.
The Register That Locks the Door
Lithuania also runs a national register of people who have asked to be barred from gambling. One application covers every licensed operator, online and in betting shops and casinos. The minimum period is measured in months, it cannot be cancelled on a whim, and operators must check new customers against the list. Tens of thousands of people have signed up, a large number for a country of under three million. We wrote about a different approach to the same problem, a spending cap tracked across all sites, on the Tipico new ID page.
What Happens When a Market Cannot Shout
Three effects are reasonably clear from the first few years.
- Incumbents hold their ground. When nobody may advertise, the names people already know keep their customers. A newcomer has no way to announce itself, so market shares freeze. Armenia saw the same thing, as the TotoGaming page explains.
- Price matters more. Without bonuses, the odds are the only offer. Here is the arithmetic. A bettor staking the equivalent of 50,000 rupees a month at a book with a 7 percent margin pays about 3,500 rupees a month for the service. At a 5 percent margin the cost is 2,500. That 1,000 rupee gap, every month, is worth more than most welcome bonuses once rollover conditions are counted.
- Unlicensed sites fill some of the silence. Offshore brands do not obey the ban. They advertise through streamers and social media, and the regulator spends a growing share of its time blocking domains. Critics of the ban argue it disarms the licensed firms and leaves the field to unlicensed ones. Supporters reply that fewer young people see betting presented as normal. Both are probably right.
The View From an Indian Phone
India sits at the opposite extreme: surrogate adverts on stadium boards, celebrity videos of doubtful origin, bonus figures that would be illegal to print in Vilnius. The Lithuanian lesson for an individual is simple and free. Behave as though the ban applied to you. Ignore the banner, read the price. Compare the back price on a cricket betting exchange with whatever a bonus-heavy site offers on the same match, and work out the cost of each over a month. If a bonus does interest you, our bonus offers page lists ours in plain rupee amounts with the conditions beside them. The way advertising leans on famous faces is picked apart on the W88 page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a TOPsport account through GameWinExch?
No. We have no relationship with TOPsport and cannot register anyone there. We provide only our own rupee betting ID.
Are betting bonuses legal in Lithuania?
No. Since mid-2021 licensed operators have been barred from offering bonuses, free bets, gifts and similar inducements.
Is all gambling advertising already banned there?
Not entirely. Restrictions are tightening in stages, with a near-total advertising ban planned for around 2028. The details have changed more than once.
How does the Lithuanian self-exclusion register work?
A person files one request with the regulator and is then blocked at every licensed operator for at least the minimum period, which runs to months.
Do advertising bans reduce betting?
Evidence is mixed. Licensed turnover tends to flatten, but some activity moves to offshore sites that ignore the rules.
An advert never tells you the margin, and a quiet site is not a safer one. Whatever you use, decide the monthly figure yourself, stick to it, and leave betting alone entirely if you are under 18.
