NordicBet New ID: Sweden and the One-Bonus Rule
NordicBet is a sportsbook and casino brand of the Betsson Group aimed at the Nordic countries. GameWinExch is not affiliated with NordicBet and cannot open or issue a NordicBet account; the rupee betting IDs it issues over WhatsApp are its own product. Sweden, the largest of NordicBet’s home markets, rebuilt its gambling law in 2019 and produced one of the strictest regimes for promotions anywhere. What happened next is a useful experiment for any bettor who has ever wondered whether bonuses are worth chasing.
The 2019 Re-Regulation
Until 2019 Sweden ran a state monopoly through Svenska Spel, while foreign sites served Swedes from Malta without a Swedish licence. The Gambling Act that took effect on 1 January 2019 opened the market to licensed private operators under a new regulator, Spelinspektionen, with an 18 percent tax on gross gaming revenue. Around 70 licences were issued in the first months. The goal was channelisation: pulling the money Swedes already bet on offshore sites into a licensed, taxed and monitored system. The government set a target of 90 percent of gambling spend going through licensed operators.
Spelpaus: One Register for Everyone
The centrepiece for player protection was Spelpaus, a national self-exclusion register run by the regulator. A player registers once, by electronic identity, and every licensed operator must block that person for the chosen period: one month, three months, six months or indefinitely. There is no way to exclude from one site and keep playing at another within the licensed system, and operators must check the register before each login and before sending any marketing. By 2024 more than 100,000 people were registered, roughly 1 percent of the adult population.
The One-Bonus Rule
The provision that startled the industry was a limit of one bonus per customer per operator, offered only at the first occasion of play. No reload bonuses, no free spins after a losing week, no birthday credits, no VIP treats. Whatever welcome offer a licensed site makes is the only promotional money that customer will ever receive from it. The reasoning was that repeated bonuses are aimed at keeping losing players active, and Sweden decided to remove the tool altogether.
The 2020 Deposit Cap
During the pandemic the government added a temporary weekly deposit limit of 5,000 kronor, about 40,000 rupees, for online casino play, and a cap of 100 kronor on bonuses, effective July 2020 to November 2021. Operators argued that it pushed casino players to unlicensed sites, and the data partly supported them: channelisation for online casino fell to an estimated 72 to 78 percent while sports betting stayed above 85 percent. The limit was allowed to expire, but the tension between protection and channelisation has defined Swedish policy since.
Channelisation in Numbers
The regulator’s own estimates put overall channelisation at around 90 percent in the first year, close to the target, but the figure hid a split. Sports betting and lottery products reached the mid-90s because Swedes had little reason to look elsewhere for a football price. Online casino stayed nearer 75 percent, and unlicensed sites advertising in Swedish continued to attract players who wanted reloads and higher deposit limits. In 2023 the government raised the gaming tax from 18 to 22 percent from July 2024 and tightened rules on payment blocking and affiliate marketing, accepting a slightly lower channelisation rate as the price of stricter protection. The trade-off has never been settled, and every annual review restarts the argument.
What the Experiment Showed
- Bonuses were not why people bet. Licensed operators kept the large majority of customers without reloads, because convenience and trust mattered more than promotional credit.
- Bonus hunters left. A minority who moved between sites collecting offers went offshore, and those were rarely the customers a regulated operator wanted.
- Marketing spend shifted to price and product. With promotions capped, operators competed on odds margins, app quality and streaming.
- Self-exclusion worked better when centralised. Site-by-site exclusion had left gaps that Spelpaus closed.
The Lesson for an Indian Bettor
An Indian bettor faces the opposite environment: no central register, no bonus limits, and offers arriving on WhatsApp daily. Sweden’s experience suggests a personal rule that mimics its law. Accept at most one welcome offer from any desk, and treat every reload as a signal that the operator believes you are losing. Since a rupee exchange charges commission on winnings rather than building margin into bonus terms, the cleaner choice is usually no bonus at all. The bonus and discount offers page explains what a desk offer actually contains, and the Reloadbet page sets out the maths of reloads that Sweden banned. Readers interested in the wider Betsson group can compare the Betsson page.
A Worked Example
A bettor deposits 5,000 rupees at a site offering a 100 percent reload every Monday with a 10 times rollover. Taking the offer weekly means wagering 100,000 rupees per week to clear 5,000 in credit, and at a 5 percent margin the expected cost of that turnover is 5,000 rupees, which is exactly the bonus. Refusing the offer and betting 5,000 rupees a week at the same margin costs an expected 250 rupees. Sweden’s rule simply removed the first option, and most players never missed it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can GameWinExch register me on NordicBet?
No. GameWinExch has no relationship with NordicBet or Betsson and cannot create an account there. It issues its own rupee IDs only.
Does the one-bonus rule apply to sports betting too?
Yes. It applies to every licensed product in Sweden, sport and casino alike, with a single welcome offer at first play.
Can a Swedish player self-exclude from one site only?
Operators must offer their own tools, but Spelpaus is national. Registering there blocks every licensed site at once.
Does a GameWinExch deposit carry any rollover?
No. Standard UPI deposits carry none. Any promotional credit is optional and its terms are stated before you accept it.
Betting is for adults aged 18 and above. Set a weekly figure you can afford to lose before the week starts, and ask the desk to pause your ID for any period you choose whenever you want a break.
