MyBookie New ID: PASPA, Its Repeal and the American Patchwork

MyBookie is an offshore online sportsbook and casino operating under a Curacao licence and serving mainly customers in the United States. GameWinExch is not affiliated with MyBookie and cannot open or issue a MyBookie account; the rupee betting IDs it issues over WhatsApp are its own product. The brand exists because of a peculiar piece of American history: for 26 years a federal law banned sports betting almost everywhere in the country, a court struck it down in 2018, and the result was not a national market but a patchwork of state rules with offshore books filling the gaps. That story has more in common with India than most Indian bettors realise, and this page tells it from 1992 to the present.

The 1992 Ban

The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, always shortened to PASPA, was signed in October 1992. It did not criminalise betting directly; instead it forbade states from authorising or licensing sports wagering. Four states that already had some form of it were grandfathered: Nevada with full sportsbooks, and Delaware, Oregon and Montana with limited lottery-style parlay cards. New Jersey was given a one-year window to legalise betting in Atlantic City casinos and let the deadline pass. For the next two decades Las Vegas was the only place in America where a person could legally bet on a single football match, and the American Gaming Association estimated that illegal and offshore betting handled well over a hundred billion dollars a year.

New Jersey Versus the Leagues

New Jersey voters approved sports betting in a 2011 referendum and the state passed a law in 2012. The four major leagues and the NCAA sued under PASPA and won repeatedly in the lower courts. The state tried again in 2014 by repealing its own prohibition rather than authorising betting, lost again, and took the case to the Supreme Court. On 14 May 2018 the court ruled six to three in Murphy v NCAA that PASPA was unconstitutional because it commandeered state legislatures, telling them what laws they could not pass. The federal ban vanished in a single morning. Delaware took its first legal single-game bet on 5 June 2018 and New Jersey followed on 14 June.

The Patchwork

The repeal handed the decision to fifty state legislatures, and they did not agree. By 2025 roughly 38 states plus Washington DC had some form of legal sports betting, but the models differ sharply.

  • Full online markets such as New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois and New York, where a dozen or more apps compete and New York alone handles more than 20 billion dollars a year.
  • Retail only states where a bet must be placed inside a casino or racetrack, which keeps handle small.
  • Single-operator monopolies such as Oregon and New Hampshire, where a lottery-run app is the only option and prices are worse.
  • Holdouts including California and Texas, the two most populous states, where legalisation has failed at the ballot or in the legislature, plus Utah where all gambling is prohibited.

A bettor in New York can use a phone; a bettor across the river in Connecticut faces different apps and rules; a bettor in Texas has no legal option at all. Geolocation software checks the phone’s position before every wager, and a person driving across a state line finds the app switching off.

Why Offshore Books Still Take Bets

Offshore sportsbooks did not close in 2018. In the holdout states they remain the only option, and even in legal states they attract customers for three reasons. They accept cryptocurrency and do not report winnings to the tax authority, whereas licensed books issue tax forms and withhold on large payouts. They offer credit to trusted players, which licensed books cannot. And they carry markets and stake sizes that regulated books restrict. The trade-off is protection: a Curacao-licensed book answers to no American regulator, disputes go nowhere, and a bettor whose withdrawal stalls has no ombudsman to call. Licensed books pay state taxes of anywhere from 6.75 percent in Nevada to 51 percent of revenue in New York, and those costs show up in the prices.

The Indian Echo

India has never had a PASPA, but the constitutional position produces the same result: betting and gambling sit on the State List, so each state writes its own law. Sikkim and Nagaland licence certain online games, Goa licences casinos, most states rely on the 1867 Public Gambling Act or their own versions of it, and a few have tried outright bans on online money games. Meanwhile offshore sites in Curacao and elsewhere serve Indian customers exactly as they serve Texans, and rupee panels operate through WhatsApp desks. The lesson from America is that a patchwork does not remove betting; it decides who takes the bets and who protects the bettor. The DraftKings and FanDuel pages describe the two largest licensed American operators, and the Mondobets page sets out the white, grey and black market map that both countries sit inside.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can GameWinExch register me on MyBookie?

No. GameWinExch has no relationship with MyBookie and cannot create an account there. It issues only its own rupee betting IDs.

Is sports betting legal everywhere in the United States now?

No. The 2018 ruling let each state decide. Around 38 states allow it in some form, several large states do not, and the rules on online access differ from one state to the next.

Why would an American use an offshore book in a legal state?

Crypto payments, no tax reporting, credit lines and fewer limits. The cost is having no regulator to complain to if something goes wrong.

Does India have a federal betting law?

Not one that covers sports betting nationally. Gambling is a state subject, so the picture varies by state in the same way it does in America.
